Our Story
The Prosper Journal was born from a simple but powerful idea: that financial freedom, smart travel, and intentional living should not be reserved for the wealthy, the privileged, or those who happened to have the right mentor growing up.
We started as a personal blog — one writer, one laptop, and a genuine frustration with financial content that was either too complicated, too American-centric, or too focused on people who already had money to begin with. The kind of articles that told you to “just max out your 401(k)” without acknowledging that most readers are figuring out how to make rent first.
So we built something different.
Today, The Prosper Journal is an independent editorial publication covering personal finance, investing, lifestyle, and travel — written for real people who are building real wealth from wherever they happen to be starting.

What We Cover
Finance
We write about budgeting, saving, debt, banking, and the everyday money decisions that quietly shape your financial future. Not theory — practical, actionable guidance you can apply this week. Whether you are paying off debt, building your first emergency fund, or trying to understand why your salary never seems to stretch far enough, this is where you start.
Investing
Markets, index funds, ETFs, retirement accounts, compound interest, risk — explained in plain language without condescension. We believe that investing is not a hobby for the financially sophisticated. It is a necessary tool for anyone who wants their money to do more than sit still and lose value to inflation. We break it down until it makes sense.
Travel
Budget travel, slow travel, digital nomad living, packing lists, flight hacks, and destination guides written by people who have actually been there. We believe travel is one of the most valuable investments you can make in yourself — and that it does not have to cost what most people assume it does.
Lifestyle
The thread that connects everything else. Morning routines, habit building, intentional spending, minimalism, productivity, and the quiet art of designing a life that does not make you want to escape it. Wealth is not just a number in a bank account. It is a way of living.

What We Believe
Money is a tool, not a personality. We do not think about money the way some publications do — as a status symbol, a measure of worth, or a competition. We think of it the way a carpenter thinks about a hammer: useful, important, and far more effective when you know how to use it properly.
Complexity is often a barrier, not a feature. The financial industry has a long history of making simple things sound complicated. We do the opposite. If we cannot explain something clearly, we do not publish it until we can.
Where you start does not determine where you finish. Some of our most widely read articles are written for people starting from zero — no savings, some debt, uncertain income. We do not assume a baseline of wealth. We meet you where you are.
Independent means independent. We are not owned by a bank, a brokerage, or a financial services company. We earn revenue through advertising and affiliate partnerships, and we disclose these clearly. Our editorial decisions are never influenced by commercial relationships. If we recommend something, it is because we genuinely think it is worth your time or money.

Our Editorial Standards
Every article published on The Prosper Journal is written with care and reviewed before it goes live. We follow a straightforward set of editorial principles:
We verify numbers, statistics, and financial data before publishing and link to primary sources wherever possible. We distinguish clearly between news, analysis, and opinion. We update articles when information changes — particularly for anything related to tax rates, financial regulations, or interest rates, which shift regularly. We disclose affiliate relationships transparently. When we link to a product or service and earn a commission, we say so. We never let affiliate relationships influence whether or how we cover a topic.
When we get something wrong — and occasionally we do — we correct it promptly and note the correction at the bottom of the relevant article.

A Note on Financial Advice
We want to be clear about something important: nothing published on The Prosper Journal constitutes personalised financial advice. We are writers and editors, not registered financial advisers.
What we publish is educational content designed to help you think more clearly about your money. Before making significant financial decisions — particularly around investments, insurance, tax, or retirement — we encourage you to consult a qualified financial professional who can account for your specific circumstances.
We will always tell you what the options are, how they work, and what the trade-offs look like. The decision is always yours.

Who Is Behind The Prosper Journal
The Prosper Journal is an independent publication run by a small editorial team with backgrounds in personal finance writing, journalism, and digital media. We are based in South Africa and write with a global readership in mind — though we are particularly conscious of readers navigating financial systems in emerging markets, where much mainstream financial advice simply does not apply.
We are a lean operation by design. That independence is the point. It means we answer to our readers, not to advertisers, investors, or parent companies.
